JJ Jefferay has been in the studio for 62 years, starting at the age of 14 in his father’s radio station in New Bern, North Carolina.
Following a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, JJ moved to Wilmington, North Carolina and worked for several stations through the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Jefferay moved to 94.5 in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1980. He joined the staff at WTQR in 1983, filling in overnights and providing afternoon traffic reports. Shortly thereafter, JJ’s wife passed away and he moved to a daytime shift on WSJS.
He returned to Wilmington in 1990 to assume the responsibilities of Operations Manager for WAAV, where he remained for ten years.
2000 saw the return of JJ to the Piedmont Triad. He joined the roster of talent at WSJS and WMFR, while broadcasting high school football, basketball and baseball games in addition to hosting the highly-rated YARD SALE.
